The decision to move the Champions League knock-out match to a neutral venue comes following the German Federal Police’s (BPOL) decision on 4th February 2021 to not allow Liverpool into the Federal Republic of Germany. In consultation with UEFA and Liverpool, RB Leipzig have made arrangements for the round of 16 to be moved to an alternative venue. The first-leg tie will kick off at 21:00 CET on Tuesday 16th February 2021.
The match against the current Premier League champions will be played in the Puskás Aréna in Budapest. The stadium is home to the Hungarian national team and is set to host matches in this summer’s European Championship. Ferencváros Budapest also played two of their three home games in the group stages of this year’s Champions League at the Puskás Aréna.
