Alexander Sørloth: "The most important game of my career so far!"

Alexander Sørloth discusses our chances of progression from the Champions League last 16 as well as the meaning of the match against Liverpool for him personally.

Alexander Sørloth and RB Leipzig have landed in Budapest!

Ahead of the last 16 second leg against Liverpool in the Champions League, our striker discusses the chances of a comeback, the game being played in Budapest, and what the match means for him personally.

Round two at the Puskás Aréna: the first leg also took place in Budapest in February.

Alex, how does it feel to be back here in Budapest?

It feels good. We already know Budapest and the Puskás Aréna from the first leg. It helps when you don’t have to get used to brand new surroundings. We feel really comfortable here and got a really warm welcome.

The first leg ended 2-0 to Liverpool. How do you see our chances of progressing?

We definitely still have a chance! In the first leg we put in a good performance for large periods of the game and were unlucky to lose in the end. If we manage to avoid any mistakes this time then anything is possible!

We’ve already shown our ability to come back many times this season. Is it important for you to know that you have it in you?

That obviously helps the team. On top of that we are in really good form right now and that gives us extra self-confidence! We know that anything is possible against Liverpool. There are still at least 90 minutes left to play.

Full focus: Alexander Sørloth wants to pull off the comeback against Liverpool and qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

For you personally, is it one of the biggest games of your career so far?

Definitely. I would say that this game is quite clearly the biggest of my professional career so far. I want to do my bit no matter what my role is so that we can pull off the comeback.

In a perfect world, what would be the headline in tomorrow’s papers?

RB Leipzig beat Liverpool 3-0 to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

...and maybe "Alex Sørloth with the deciding goal”?

(Laughs) That can be the subheading!

Thank you, Alex, and best of luck for the second leg against Liverpool!

Comeback qualities: Alex helped Leipzig to win in the league match against Borussia Mönchengladbach in February.
After being 2-0 behind at half-time, we came out on top thanks to his last-minute goal.
