WHAT A THRILLER! After an incredible cup battle against SV Werder Bremen, the Bulls are in the DFB-Pokal final! Emil Forsberg's 2-1 winner in the last minute of extra time sees the cup dream live on. Bring on Berlin on 13th May!
RBL were the better side and deserved more of the game from the first minute, but were dealt with two scares in the first half. Striker Josh Sargent first missed the target when through on Peter Gulácsi's goal (30'). On the stroke of half time, referee Manuel Gräfe pointed to the spot after a collision on the edge of the Leipzig penalty area, but rightly reversed the decision after a VAR review (44'). Therefore, the two sides went into the break scoreless.
The second half became even more intense. Neither team allowed much at either end and were robust in duels. The Red Bulls had Bremen pinned in their own half, but were denied by the woodwork (Orban, 64', Nkunku, 78') and a strong Jiri Pavlenka save in injury time. Substitute Hee-Chan Hwang finally gave RBL the lead (93'), before Werder's Leonardo Bittencourt equalised just before the interval (105'). Step in, Emil Forsberg! In the last minute, our number 10 on off the bench put the ball in the back of the net to book our ticket to Berlin (120')!
