"We want to play and we want to win!"

Julian Nagelsmann, Marcel Halstenberg, Yussuf Poulsen, Dani Olmo and Justin Kluivert react to the 2-0 victory over SV Werder Bremen.

Julian Nagelsmann:

  • "I said it would be a game of character and that's what it was. It was a deserved victory for us. Marcel Sabitzer in particular lead the way and put in a really strong performance.
After the eventful games we've had recently, it's normal to find it difficult to get into a game, but our performance in the first half was very dominant. We had Bremen pinned back for stretches and then deservedly got the penalty. We carried on putting on the pressure and created more chacnes. We went into half time with a highly-deserved two-goal lead.
We took our foot off the gas a little bit in the second half, but still managed to create some chances and could have closed the game out earlier. Werder were compact and didn't allow us much room to link up, while being dangerous on the counter. However, we were strong in defence and won the important duels. I'm pleased with how the game went."

Marcel Halstenberg:

  • "The win feels good. In games like this you have to be there, and that's what we were. We were very dominant in the first half and deserved to go 2-0 ahead. Of course, we wanted to keep our foot on the gas in the second half and take our chances to close the game out.

However, we're pleased. We kept a clean sheet while scoring two for ourselves. With regard to our current workload, victories like this are important. We all understand each other on the pitch, regardless of who is in the XI or who is brought on. We all really want to play, and really want to win."

Yussuf Poulsen:

  • "Overall it was a good performance and a deserved victory for our team. After a steady start, we improved and were able to control the game. We should have scored more.

For Dani's goal, everything worked perfectly. We study moves like that, both on the pitch and in video analysis. What he did with the ball after receiving my pass was amazing.
Our squad is well set up and has a lot of quality. The guys who come on from the bench also bring fantastic performances."

Dani Olmo:

  • "The team played well today. We could have maybe scored more than two today, but at the end of the day, what matters is the three points.

The build up for my goal was great. That's how we should and want to play. Yussuf Poulsen's pass was fantastic. Of course, I'm pleased to have scored my first league goal of the season. We're still in every competition and we're doing well. Long may it continue!"

Justin Kluivert:

  • "We didn't start the game very well, but after the first goal we took control of the match. The second goal was crated brilliantly.

I should have actually scored another goal today. However, I'm pleased to have been able to help the team recently during the important games. The team spirit is fantastic, as is the quality in the squad. You can feel and see that on the pitch."
