"We were the better team from the start!"

Willi Orban, Julian Nagelsmann, Emil Forsberg and Kevin Kampl react to the 3-0 victory over SC Freiburg

Willi Orban:

  • "We showed from the first minute that we were the better side. After taking the lead we remained focussed and continued to attack. It was important to pick up the points after this intense week and go into the international break on a high.

We have a lot of players capable of scoring. In a game like today, where the opposition is sitting deep, us defenders are also needed. Everyone was pleased for Ibrahima Konaté after his opening goal. He is a very important player who is very popular among the boys."

Julian Nagelsmann:

  • "We're pleased to pick up a deserved victory in the end. We started the game well and had a really good first half. Looking back at being forced into a change shortly before kick off in Marcel Halstenberg, I think we began really well.
As we expected, Freiburg sat deep. But we were set up well and the players carried out what we had discussed and analysed ahead of the game. Especially in the opening phase of the match, we were really dangerous, worked our set pieces well, and made the right decisions.
After the break, Freiburg increased the pressure and caused us a few slight problems; we were too deep and strugled to get to the second ball. Changes to our formation worked well and were the key to our success."

Kevin Kampl:

  • "Midweek games cause a week to be tiring, but we have a big squad. We can make changes and bring fresh players in. Today we had a really good first half and I think we could have even scored one or two more goals. We played the way we expected ourselves to.
After half time, it was clear that Freiburg were taking more chances. They did better and made it harder for us. However after 20 minutes we picked ourselves back up and took control of the game again. We're all really pleased for Ibrahima Konaté, he's come back from a long injury break and you could see how happy he was with his goal."

Emil Forsberg:

  • "We're back on track – after the two defeats it was important that we show what we're made of. That's what we managed to do. We had a really good game today, even though it's not always easy against an opponent who sits deep.
I'm proud to have played 100 games in the Bundesliga. Now I'm looking ahead and the next goal is 200 games."
