RB Leipzig fell to a 2-0 defeat against the Reds in a game that was even over long stretches. Two lapses in concentration in defence were punished by Mohamed Salah (53') and Sadio Mané (58').
In an intense and high-tempo game, Dani Olmo almost gave RB Leipzig the lead in the fifth minute. His diving header hit the inside of the post and bounced clear. At the other end of the pitch, Pete Gulácsi held strong to deny Mo Salah. In the 36th minute, Roberto Firmino had the ball in the back of the net, but the assistant's flag was up as the ball had gone out of play.
Just like in the first, it was Leipzig who enjoyed the better start. Christopher Nkunku found himself one-on-one with Alisson Becker but the Liverpool goalkeeper produces a strong save to keep the game scoreless (47'). Just minutes later, Liverpool showed their quality to capitalise on two Leipzig mistakes within five minutes to make it 2-0. The team reacted well and managed to carve out more chances, but were unable to take any and will take a two-goal deficit into the second leg.
