"We didn't reward our good play"

Julian Nagelsmann, Markus Krösche, Tyler Adams and Willi Orban on the 0-0 draw with 1. FC Köln

Julian Nagelsmann:

  • "I'm pleased with a good portion of our performance. our spacial play wasn't quite right in the first half and it took us a little while to find our structure. If Amadou Haidara had taken the first big chances and we'd gone in the lead, the game would have played more into our hands. We didn't reward our good play on too many occasions.

In the second half we applied more pressure and the game wasn't as open. We spent a lot of time in the opposition half but didn't have much space. In the end, it was important not to concede. I think the team who scored first today would have won the game.

We have to do better when it comes to chance conversion. We're playing well and with a good style, but the statistics show that we're not taking enough chances. We have to work on that. However, I wont start to worry based off one game. It was a good performance, but of course we'd have liked a victory.

Mentally, we weren't at 100% – that should be the case on Tuesday and we'd like to progress to the next round of the DFB-Pokal. We'll try to bring a really good performance in Augsburg and make amends for the draw today."

Tyler Adams:

  • "It wasn't an easy game for us. We had a couple of good chances in the first half - if we'd have taken them, it would have been a different game. We should have scored an early goal.Going into half time at 0-0 gave Cologne more confidence and they sat deeper in the second half. They defended really well; it was tough for us to create chances.

As a team and a club, we have high expectations of ourselves. We should be winning games like today's. However, our focus is now on Tuesday and the DFB-Pokal game against Augsburg."

Willi Orban:

  • "It wasn't a bad performance from us, we actually dominated the game. Cologne had no shots on goal in the first half. One point is very frustrating and not enough. All we needed was one goal, but it wasn't to be. Cologne were compact in defence and played cleverly. We had enough chances to have taken the lead.

Despite the draw today, we've had an impressive year, in which we picked up a lot of good results in the current season. We wanted the three points today, but can still be pleased with our performance."

Markus Krösche:

  • "We were lacking a little concentration and composure today, especially in front of goal. We had several good chances but weren't as clinical as usual.

It was a game wherer only one team was really in it. Cologne simply concentrated on defending. We applirf pressure, but didn't see out some of the moves well. It is frustrating, but we have to take it and move on. It was nevertheless a good performance."
