"We kept our cool and deserved the win!"

Markus Krösche, Julian Nagelsmann, Marcel Sabitzer and Emil Forsberg react to the 1-0 win over Union Berlin and the successful Hinrunde

Julian Nagelsmann:

  • "Against Union, you know that you're not going to get many chances. However, we created three really big chances, and converted one of them. As we expected, we had more possession and more shots. I liked the fact that the team remained patient. I think the game would have been easier if Christopher Nkunku had scored his chance in the first half.

However, we continued to play well in the second half and also managed to prevent being caught on the counter. We won a lot of balls, especially through Alexander Sørloth, who had a really good game. In the end we fully deserved the win.

What's more important than creativity in a game is discipline. When you're playing against a side that defends well, like Union, it important to remain focused. The team was patient, mature and smart.
All in all, we're pleased with the Hinrunde. The team has done really well and we can be pleased with our points return, especially considering our situation - with the packed schedule and Champions League tournament in Lisbon. In the second half of the season we want to pick up just as many points, and if not, even more."

Marcel Sabitzer:

  • "It felt like we had 80% of the possession today. We tried to keep them under pressure all the time.
We knew that we wouldn't get many big chances today, but we never let up and deserved the win in the end. Union put pressure on at the end, but we reacted well and didn't lose our cool.

We had to deal with losing our two top scorers before the start of this season, but we've made up for that well as a team and had a really good Hinrunde. We're in great shop and are enjoying playing our football. We're grateful to be able to carry on doing our job. The focus now is about being more consistent. We need to work on that and have the next opportunity on Saturday."

Emil Forsberg:

  •  "It wasn't easy to find space today. Union did really well and made it hard for us. However, in the end we found the gap and scored a nice goal. It was a deserved victory today. Before the game, we said we wanted to play a quick game against a compact Union team. In the end we played with patience, will and passion and deserved the goal.
We're not looking at Bayern; we're only focused on ourselves. We have to bring our game and win our matches. We can be proud of ourselves after the first half of the season. Of course, we had a few games that didn't go so well, but overall, we're pleased."

Markus Krösche:

  • "Union Berlin are well known for their strong defence, and we also found it hard to create chances today. However, the team was patient and rewarded themselves in the end. We were the deserved winners.

In the first half, we did a lot of things well but perhaps didn't create the clear chances. After the break, we wanted to increase the tempo again and get into a shooting position more quickly. We managed to do so and deserved the victory.
We can be more than pleased with our points return from the Hinrunde. You also have to compliment the team on the way they've played."
