"We gave it our all!"

Oliver Mintzlaff, Julian Nagelsmann, Marcel Sabitzer and Willi Orban react to the 1-0 defeat against FC Bayern Munich

Oliver Mintzlaff:

  • "It wasn't undeserved that we went into half time 1-0 down - because of how clinical Bayern are and the fact that they were the better side for the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, we improved significantly and gave it our all. Based off the performance alone, it felt like it could have been a draw, but we have to accept the result. However, of course we’d have loved to have taken at least a point.

Playing against Bayern is certainly not a walk in the park and when you don’t take your chances, that will decide the game in the end. Our primary goal remains qualification for the UEFA Champions League. On top of that, we have the chance to record the best season in the club's history. Our focus is on the seven remaining games."

Julian Nagelsmann:

  • "I think we had a good game. We conceded a goal that we shouldn't have; it came from a deep run from midfield. Other than that, we defended well.

We forced Bayern deep for spells in the second half and didn’t allow them any clear attacking opportunities throughout the game. Unfortunately, we missed four great chances. Leon Goretzka puts Bayern's away. That was the difference today. We have to work on that and be more clinical in the final third. We’re very strong in defence, but a few goals wouldn’t hurt, even though we are doing well collectively.

We work a lot and sometimes get too little to show for it. However, the team showed its strong character and gave their all until the end. We have to carry on like this in the coming weeks and against Bremen in order to make the most out of what has so far been a good season."

Marcel Sabitzer:

  • "The difference today was that Bayern took their chance. We performed well and were dominant. Especially after half time, we started the second half well. We have to accept the fact that we didn't take our chances tonight."

Willi Orban:

  • "We played very well in the second half and the only thing that was missing was the goal. That makes the defeat tough to take, of course. We lacked efficiency in our finishing. Aside from that, we played with a lot of dominance and found spaces again and again when in possession. However, if we don't score goals, we can't win games. Now we want to defend second place and we also still have a big chance in the DFB-Pokal."
