RB Leipzig defeated 1-0 by FC Bayern

RB Leipzig fail to make the most of good performance and numerous chances | Goretzka scores the winner for Bayern (38’) | Upamecano receives 5th yellow card | Poulsen forced off through injury

Top-of-the-table game goes the way of the league leaders. RB Leipzig suffered a 1-0 loss to FC Bayern Munich on Saturday evening. The team may have felt a draw was a more just result, especially given a strong performance in a second half in which they enjoyed much more chances but were unable to convert any opportunities into goals.

The defending champions took the lead in the 38th minute through Leon Goretzka with what turned out to be the eventual winner to pull seven points clear at the top of the table.

8th minute: The Red Bulls start with a lot of pressure but are unable to take advantage. Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer manages to get to the ball ahead of Emil Forsberg, who was looking to shoot.

19th minute: First attempt for RBL! Nkunku takes the free kick and Bayern are able to clear, before Marcel Sabitzer hits the rebound over the bar from 20 metres.

24th minute: Good counter attack from the visitors. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting sets up Kingsley Coman, but Willi Orban manages to block. Choupo-Moting then misses the target with a shot.

38th minute: Bayern goal. Josuha Kimmich plays Thomas Müller through the middle, who cuts back and lays it off for Leon Goretzka. The midfielder powers an effort into the back of the net first time.

43rd minute: Bayern come close to doubling the lead. RBL head a corner away and Leroy Sané picks up the ball and strikes on goal - Péter Gulacsi reacts well to save.

49th minute: Justin Kluivert is on for Emil Forsberg at the break - and the team have two big chances right away! Nkunku misses to the right from around the penalty spot; then Kluivert's cross is headed on by Haidara to Sabitzer, who is unable to hit the target.

52nd minute: RBL continue to hunt the equaliser! Olmo strikes just wide from the edge of the penalty area (52'), then hits the side netting from a narrow angle (54').

59th minute: Our captain Sabitzer with a rocket from range. Unfortuately, Neuer pulls off a great one-handed save to prevent the ball flying in just below the crossbar.

75. MINUTE: Für die Leipziger Bullen sind nun mit Yussuf Poulsen und Alexander Sörloth zwei frische Stürmer im Spiel. Die Bayern beschränken sich auf offensive Nadelstiche. Einen solchen schlenzte Jamal Musiala über den Kasten. Müllers Versuch packt sich Gulácsi.
