"We were the much better team!"

Head coach Julian Nagelsmann, Dani Olmo, Yussuf Poulsen and Willi Orban react to the 2-1 win over FC Augsburg

Julian Nagelsmann:

  • "We did really well for 75 minutes. At the end there was a silly defensive action that made the game much too tense - that shouldn't happen. After that, we put the pressure right back on with three or four great attacks and chances. The goal we conceded frustrates me a little bit because we had the game under control. The victory was deserved in the end.

Today's performance has no relation to the game on Tuesday. We know that we need a top performance against Liverpool. We did that over long stretches today; we were clearly the better side. We have a huge task ahead of us. It's one that we're looking forward to and have earned. We want to give our all in our 'home tie' in Budapest and put ourselves in a good position for the second leg."

Dani Olmo:

  •  "We're pleased with the win, despite the tense ending and their goal. We played well as a team and created a lot of chances over the full 90 minutes.

Of course, it's not a good feeling to miss a penalty. With the second one, I just tried to do it better.

We have a huge game ahead of us. Liverpool are one of the best teams in Europe; they've shown that in recent years. It won't be easy. We have a few days now to recover, and then we want to pick up the win in Budapest."

Yussuf Poulsen:

  • "We played a really good game over long stretches. We were the much better side and didn't allow them anything. Towards the end, we got a bit sloppy on the ball and with our passing and also conceded a silly penalty. That simply shouldn't happen.

However, the most important thing is that we got the three points."

Willi Orban:

  • "All in all, we're the deserved winners over 90 minutes, but at the end we should have been a bit more focused in playing the game out. However, the victory was deserved in the end.

Our positioning and pressing were good today, which was crucial against a compact Augsburg side. We looked to close the spaces after losing possession and win the ball back as quickly as possible. Doing so, we were able to put Augsburg under pressure. We did that really well above all in the first half."

We are Leipzig!
