"We have to learn from games like this!"

Julian Nagelsmann, Willi Orban, Yussuf Poulsen and Tyler Adams react to the 3-1 defeat against Borussia Dortmund

Julian Nagelsmann:

  •  "It was a game of two different halves. We did well in the first half and won possession a lot, but we couldn't enforce ourselves in their half. We had a relatively big chance when Tyler Adams had the ball at the byline: we had to score in that situation. Borussia Dortmund got into the game a lot more from the 35th minute onwards. However, we were the better team in the first half but we lacked the punch.
In the second half, we didn't do a lot of the things that we did well in the first half. We lost our structure and Dortmund capitalised when we lost possession to score some nice goals.
We've lost after nine unbeaten. It's frustrating because it was against a direct rival. We'd have liked to have won and created a 9-point gap between us and them, but looking at their chances, it was a deserved victory for Dortmund. We have to move on and focus on the first 30 minutes.
Alexander Sörloth scoring his first Bundesliga goal was important. I hope that's the first step taken and the next one will follow. However, with regard to the result, it was just a consolation goal."

Yussuf Poulsen:

  • "Of course, we're really disappointed because we wanted more from the game. We were the stronger team in the first half. We should have carried that on after half time but we coudln''t. BVB were much better in attack in the second half and deserved their win. We have to acknowledge that."

Willi Orban:

  • "We did well in the first half, had a lot of possession and had the game under control. However, we still weren't forceful enough. After the break, we lost our agression and in a Topspiel you have to stay on it for 90 minutes, otherwise it gets difficult. That's what we saw in the second half.
Of course, it was a setback for us today, but as a young team, we need to learn from games like this and look ahead. We need to be focused going into the upcoming games. We're still doing well and want to contiinue that for as long as possible."

Tyler Adams:

  • "It wasn’t an easy game. But we weren’t playing any old team. Dortmund have so much quality in their side. Obviously, it would have been great to get the three points in order to increase the gap between us and our direct rivals. We need to shrug this off and look ahead.

Of course, it was nice to see my friend Gio Reyna. But on the pitch we are opponents, which makes the defeat hurt even more. I’m determined to win the next one!"
