"We'll give our all to reach Berlin!"

Reaction from head coach Julian Nagelsmann, captain Marcel Sabitzer and player of the match Yussi Poulsen after the 4-0 DFB-Pokal last-16 win over VfL Bochum

Julian Nagelsmann:

  • "In the first half, we had a bit of trouble opening up the game, so Bochum had one or two good chances. The game was still relatively open. Despite that, we went into the break with a two-goal lead.
After the break, we did better and the substitution of Dani Olmo gave us a but of zip. The scoreline was perhaps a little too high. In the end, we're just happy to get through.
Laki Samardzic didn't have such a good day today. He's a young player, so there are fluctuations in performance. That's why he has to get his head back up and keep working on himself.
Hee-Chan Hwang did very well today - he probably should have scored in the 50th minute. As he's been out for such a long time, he has to work his way into the starting XI step by step."

Marcel Sabitzer:

  • "We did a decent job in the first half, but overall we allowed them too much. We changed a few things during the break and controlled the game after half time. In the end, we deserved the win. However, Bochum played well and were always looking for answers, so it was a tough game today.
We are trying to bring consistency to our game. But as we have so many games, it's not always easy to do so. In the long run, though, we've done well so far, with just a few low points. We have to carry on in this way. We have more difficult games ahead of us, and that's what we'll be focused and concentrating on."

Yussuf Poulsen:

  • "I've felt really good in recent weeks, but I haven't played as often as I would have liked. That's why I was very pleased to be able to start this important cup game today and help the team with two goals.

In the first half, Bochum caused us some problems - especially in transition. At certain points, we were a bit too careless in defence. In the second half, we were the better side and didn't allow them much, so it was a deserved victory. The goals we are rally well crafted.
The cup final was one of the best games in my career so far. It was a great experience with 70,000 fans in the Olympiastadion. This year it will probably take place without spectators, but we'll still give pur all to reach Berlin again."
