Austria out to defend top spot

A total of seven RBL players are in UEFA Nations League action during this international break. Tonight, on 7th September, it's Austria's turn again, with Marcel Sabitzer set to play a leading role once more. The Leipzig midfielder will be looking to help his nation keep hold of top spot in League B's Group 1 when they take on Romania at 20:45 CEST.

Austria won their opening game against Norway 2-1, not least thanks to Sabitzer's penalty.

First call-up for Upamecano

The hard work has finally paid off! Dayot Upamecano moved to the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig as an 18-year-old. At 20, he played in his first DFB-Pokal final. Now 21 years of age, he recently put in a Man of the Match performance against Atletico Madrid to help his side reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals for the first time. Those efforts have finally caught the eye of France national team head coach Didier Deschamps, who has called Upamecano up for the world champions' upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures.

Dayot Upamecano:

Being called up is a huge honour for me! I always dreamed of one day wearing the Les Blues shirt as a kid. I'm incredibly proud and will continue to work hard. I can't wait to come up against Emil in my first game.

Upa's first senior cap came against Sweden, with the centre back even being named in the startiing line-up and helping the world champions to a 1-0 win over Emil Forsberg & Co.

As expected, Joachim Löw hasn't named Marcel Halstenberg and Lukas Klostermann in his Germany squad following their extended run in the UEFA Champions League.
