In our opponent analysis, we will take a closer look at our upcoming opponents, looking at their season so far and summarising the most important facts.
With three points, the Istanbul side occupy fourth place in Group H. Despite three losses, the Turkish champions celebrated a 2-1 home victory against current group leaders Manchester United.
On the previous matchday however, Başakşehir were unable to repeat their success and were defeated at Old Trafford. A Bruno Fernandes brace put the home side ahead early and the Red Devils ran out 4-1 winners.
Domestically, the defending Süper Lig champions suffered a dissapointing start, with three consecutive defeats. After conceding a last minute equaliser agianst Denizlispor to draw 3-3 on the weekend, Okan Buruk's side occupy 7th place in the table.
Alongside several young talents, Başakşehir’s squad has lots of experience to boast about, in players such as Edin Visca, who has played over 350 games for the club. With four goals, the 30-year-old attacker is among the most dangerous players on the team this season. However, it is fellow attacker Fredrik Guldbrandsen who leads his side, with five goals in all competitions.
Club captain Mahmut Tekdemir has also been playing for the current Turkish champions for over a decade. The midfield man, dangerous with his head, has build-up expertise and outstanding defensive qualities. Last season, he scored the 1-0 winner against Kayserispor, which won his team the title.
