"Of course, a result like that doesn't feel good."

Julian Nagelsmann, Yussuf Poulsen, Emil Forsberg and Kevin Kampl offer their thoughts after RBL's heavy 5-0 defeat at Manchester United

Julian Nagelsmann:

  • "That was a tough one to take. Of course, a result like that doesn't feel good. The scoreline was much too high. We played well in the first half, but weren't great in the final third. We could have taken something from tonight.
After the second goal, we stopped defending - that's the only criticism I can make of the boys. All along, you actually felt as if things were going okay, but then you end up losing 5-0. It would have been better if we had managed to keep our shape in defence and gone home with a 2-0 defeat. We paid the price. Aside from the last 20 minutes, our performance wasn't too bad."

Yussuf Poulsen:

  • "For whatever reason, we fell apart after their second goal and stopped defending actively. Man United took advantage of our errors. The result is a little unfair, I don't think the game was as one-sided as it suggests. We actually had a lot of possession, but didn't create enough chances with it.

United did really well tonight, you have to give them credit. We will do better in the next game."

 Emil Forsberg:

  • "It's very hard to find the right words after that result. We started the game well, put them under pressure and we were just as good in our build-up play. In the final third, we weren't effective enough and didn't attack their box. That's where we needed to have better solutions and more crosses. We fell apart after their second goal, which we cannot allow ourselves to do."

Kevin Kampl

  • "The scoreline doesn't represent the game. We conceded the first goal with the first shot we faced – that can happen agaisnt a top side. After that, we stayed in the game. However, our play in the final third was not good and there were too many loose passes.
We started the second half well but Manchester United scored their second with the first attempt of the half again. After that we simply had to defend better and should not have allowed another three goals. We didn't do too much wrong until the second goal. You can lose a game like that 2-0, but not 5-0.
We have three points from two games, so everything is still open. Manchester United still have to come to Leipzig and we want to put on a different performance, defend better and create chances more effectively. The group is wide open. Anything can happen and we will give everything we've got right to the end in order to progress."
