"We have to be critical of ourselves!"

Head coach Julian Nagelsmann, Emil Forsberg and Marcel Halstenberg react to the 2-1 defeat at 1. FC Köln.

Julian Nagelsmann:

  • "Köln played the way a 17th-placed team has to. In their battle against relegation, they're fighting for every point. To do that, they fought with their all against us. They weren’t here to play majestic, Brazilian football. They were clever in tunning the clock down. The bench was very active from the first minute.

It's our own fault that we didn't win today. I've already told the team that they have to be self-critical. We had enough chances to win the game and should have been ahead after five minutes. That was clear to see.
It's a bit tragic that we have so many chances, yet very rarely shoot on goal or hit the target. At the end of the day, it’s just too little."

Emil Forsberg:

  • "We actually started well and applied pressure - unfortunately we didn't manage the goal and therefore made it hard for ourselves.
We came here to win and we didn't manage that. Köln fought and showed passion. We had several chances and didn't take them. Of course, we're disappointed with that.
It's important not to let our heads drop and to show a reaction with a win on Sunday."

 Marcel Halstenberg:

  • "Of course, we are all disappointed. To take one point from two games against Köln is clearly not enough for our standards.
We created a few scoring chances, but failed to score and also defend consistently. We didn't manage to take up the fight. We knew that Köln would simply fight today. They definitely did that better than us.
We still have important games in the Bundesliga as well as the DFB-Pokal semi-final ahead of us. We want to win every game and defend second place. It's not down to our attitude."
