Hey Ibou, we’ll start with an easy question! How are you?
“I’m feeling great right now! I’m happy that the Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB-Pokal are back underway after the international break.”
Ready for the fans’ questions?
“Absolutely, fire away.”
Okay then. Your biggest fan, Nordi Mukiele, asks: Why did you do three different celebrations at once against SC Freiburg?
“Haha, I knew he’d want to hear the answer again! I dedicated my goal to three different people, so I celebrated in three different ways. One celebration was for myself, because I was just really happy to be able to help the team again after such a long time out through injury. The second was for my teammate Nordi Mukiele, because he provided the assist. And the third was dedicated to our fans, who are always supporting us even at this difficult time.”
Describe the feeling that you had after your goal against Freiburg.
“I was over the moon when I scored my first goal of the season. I had to suppress that emotion, though, because the game was still far from over. You can’t let yourself lose focus, so I quickly got back to concentrating on the game.”
What would you say has been the highlight of your career so far?
“Even if I wasn’t on the pitch, the highlight was definitely the Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid in Lisbon. The time we spent together as a team in Lisbon was really special and brought us even closer together.”
Who is your best friend at the club? Who do you spend the most time with?
“That’s really tough to say, as I get on really well with all of my teammates. But I probably spend the most time with the other French players: Christo, Doudou, Nordi and Upa. But they’re all great lads.”
Who is quicker: Ibrahima Konaté or Dayot Upamecano?
“Oof – another hard question! Maybe we’ll have a little race next matchday, then we’ll see who is the fastest.”
Did you have any sporting heroes when you were a child?
“Not just as a kid – I still look up to Sergio Ramos. He is just a legend. He has played at the top level for years and is a great warrior and the perfect leader.”
Final question, Ibou – how good is your German?
“My German isn’t perfect yet, I’ve still got some learning to do. But I think that I can communicate my thoughts quite well and I already understand plenty.”
