RB Leipzig and Dominik Szoboszlai have agreed a contract extension to extend the midfielder's existing deal by one more year until 2026. Szoboszlai joined RBL from FC Red Bull Salzburg in January 2021 and has been dealing with a pelvic injury since.
After a targeted rehabilitation and individual recovery program, the 20-year-old has been training with the team since last week. Szoboszlai will leave team quarantine on Thursday to join up with the Hungary national team in preparation for the European Championship.
- "Of course, my first six months at RB Leipzig were different to what I had imagined. The goal was for me to be able to help the team on the pitch during the second half of the season, which unfortunately didn't work out. But I'm now fully recovered; I will be able to go 100% next season and I can't wait for the new campaign. From day one, I have felt total backing, complete trust and maximum support from the club during this difficult phase. The contract extension during this period is another strong indication of that and underlines that we want to do something and be successful together in the long term."
Commercial Director for Sport:
- "A contract extension is certainly a bit unusual when a player hasn't played for their new club yet. However, for us it is an important indication that Dominik Szoboszlai will be a very key player at RB Leipzig for the coming years and that we have a lot of expectations with him. Therefore, we quickly reached an agreement during some very positive discussions to extend his contract until 2026. Dominik is an exceptional European talent who will bring us a lot of joy from the new season and beyond."
