Three big points in Bielefeld! RB Leipzig carved out a narrow, but dominant 1-0 victory at Arminia Bielefeld to take the season tally up to 57 points.
With 75% possession and six shots on target to Bielefeld’s zero, the first half belonged very much to Julian Nagelsmann’s side. Only a goal was missing. Three big chances from Emil Forsberg (12’), Dani Olmo (26’) and Christopher Nkunku (43’) all met their match against the impressive Stefan Ortega in Bielefeld’s goal.
But fortunes changed with the opening goal just 57 seconds after the restart. A pin-point pass from Christopher Nkunku picked out Dani Olmo in the Bielefeld penalty area and the Spaniard squared it on a plate for Marcel Sabitzer to tap into an empty net. It was the Austrian’s 50th goal for Leipzig; his 30th in the Bundesliga. RB continued to apply the pressure in search of a second goal; both Amadou Haidara (64) and Nkunku (79’) coming close, but in the end a 1-0 scoreline was enough to secure the much-needed win.
The only downer on the night was a yellow card awarded to Kevin Kampl. It was the midfielder’s fifth of the season, meaning he will have to sit out of the upcoming clash against FC Bayern.
