"We need to be better on Thursday"

Head coach Julian Nagelsmann, Péter Gulácsi and Lukas Klostermann speak about the Bundesliga defeat in Dortmund

Julian Nagelsmann:

  • "Every defeat is frustrating, especially when you're behind, then come back and the opponents aren't as fresh as you. During the period that we were on top, we conceded the third goal. That's disappointing and not necessary. Over the whole 90 minutes, we weren't a lot worse than Dortmund.

Dortmund didn't have as much of the play in the second half, but those they had were really dangerous. We should have defended their goals better - we could have taken more from the game if we had. Dortmund were perhaps a little better over the course of the game and won it at the end. That's what ultimately counts.

We've now got enough time before Thursday to analyse our mistakes. Not everything was bad today, though. We can discuss some positive things too. We're looking forward to the cup final. It's a special occasion. We will need to be better on Thursday to win the title."

Péter Gulácsi:

  • "We didn't start the game very well, weren't active enough in the final third and didn't defend the way we wanted to. We did then improve a bit towards the end of the first half. After the restart, we conceded the second goal, but still fought back and managed to get an equaliser. We then felt like the momentum was on our side. Dortmund taking the lead again obviously hurt us. We have to put it behind us and take the positives going into Thursday.

Winning the cup on Thursday would be massive. Not just for me, but for the fans, the club and the city. I really hope that we leave Berlin as Pokal winners on Thursday!"

Lukas Klostermann:

  • "We performed well in the second half and were determined in our forward play. In the end, luck wasn't on our side today, but we have to pick our heads up again because our next game is a huge one."
