"A draw was the fair result!"

Head coach Julian Nagelsmann, Péter Gulácsi and Emil Forsberg after the draw against Bayer 04 Leverkusen

Draw on matchday 2! Die Roten Bullen take a point in Leverkusen. The game in the BayArena ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.

After the game, head coach Julian Nagelsmann, Péter Gulácsi and Emil Forsberg gave their thoughts.

Head coach Julian Nagelsmann:

  • "It was a very interesting game, with a lot of tempo and chances at both ends. Of course we would have liked a win - as would our opponents.

If you look at the course of the game, a draw is the fair result. We started really well and deservedly took the lead, but after the equaliser and the substitution to Yussi, we lost our handle on the game. We had a few difficult situations to deal with and were clearly positioned too deeply. It took us a long time to adjust and regain our structure.

At half time we made a few changes and after that, the game was more balanced. We maybe even had the better chances.

Alexander Sørloth is a player who still hasn't learnt and accustomed to our style. However, because of the high number of long balls, we wanted a player in the game who was strong in the air."

Péter Gulácsi:

  • "We started really well and took control of the game, and the lead was deserved. Then we conceded and the momentum shifted. In the second half of the first 45, Leverkusen were clearly the better side.

The second half was balanced. A point each is deserved. Of course, we wanted more and had some good moments, but need more efficiency and calmness on the ball.

Our philosophy is the same as last season and we've had two good games. Today, we could have beaten a good opponent. So it's so far, so good. If we can get a win next weekend, it'll be a good start to the season."

Emil Forsberg:

  • "We started the game well and the firt 10 or 15 minutes were really strong. But after that we lost our control and didn't have much possession. It wasn't a good performance from us.

Up against each other were two good teams who like to play. However, we were lacking ideas and we had to do better. If you let the opposition have too much of the ball, you have to run more and that's how you get tired out."
