"Starting off with a win is key"

Julian Nagelsmann, Timo Werner and Willi Orban analyse Tuesday's 2-1 victory over Benfica.

Julian Nagelsmann:

  • "The win feels good - after all, we wanted to start off with a win here. We had a bit too much respect for them in the first half and our positioning was off. We addressed that at half time and came out strong during the next 25 minutes. We had plenty of chances and were able to score. Starting off with a win is key, especially with the tough matches that lie ahead of us in the next few weeks. But, we're looking forward to them."

Timo Werner:

  • "Overall, it wasn't a bad game - both teams wanted to win tonight. We scored twice and Benfica managed to get just one. We deserved to win based on our performance in the second half, and should have taken the lead even earlier.

The lads are setting me up superbly. I'm the last link in the chain and am there to put the ball in the net, which worked brilliantly today."

Willi Orban:

  • "We're delighted to have come out on top in a really tough game. It's not a bad way to kick off our group. Both teams were pretty evenly-matched during the first half, but then we started to dominate in the second and were able to score. Our concentration was lacking a little at 2-0 and it got tense again, but we managed to see it out and can go home very happy."
