"Full of excitement for the start of the Bundesliga!"

RBL coach Nagelsmann talks about our Bundesliga opener at 1. FC Union Berlin and about current player availability | 2,500 RBL fans to make the journey to the stadium | Sabitzer, Halstenberg, Forsberg and Kampl are fit for Sunday | Demme and Konaté are doubts

The Bundesliga is back! After last weekend's win in the DFB-Pokal, we now look ahead to the first game of the Bundesliga season. We are travelling to Berlin to face 1. FC Union for our opening match.
In his pre-match press conference, head coach Julian Nagelsmann spoke about our upcoming opponents and player availability.

Coach Julian Nagelsmann

  • "In Union, we are coming up against a team with ball-winning ability that has a lot of tall and robust players in their squad. They are capable of defending well as a unit and launching attacks from a compact midfield press. They also react well to the second ball. I hope that we're so dominant that Union won't have many opportunities to press us.
  • We have been preparing for that in training sessions; there has been a focus on tactical nuances. We have also been looking to fix the minor mistakes we were making towards the end of the game against Osnabrück at the weekend when we were in possession.
  • We want to bring our A-game onto the pitch and keep Union largely on the defensive.
  • I am really excited that the Bundesliga is finally back and I am looking forward to competing against the other teams again!"

Team news

  • Emil Forsberg, Kevin Kampl, Marcel Halstenberg and Marcel Sabitzer are match fit again.
  • There are question marks over Diego Demme and Ibrahima Konaté (muscle problems), but they are a possibility for Sunday.
  • Jean-Kévin Augustin (ankle), Tyler Adams (muscle) and Dayot Upamecano (knee) will not be available.
  • The referee will be Markus Schmidt from Stuttgart.
