Another big step towards the next round! The Bulls defended their spot at the top of Group G with a deserved 2-0 victory away to Zenit St. Petersburg and can now start to think about the round of sixteen.
Marcel Halstenberg believed he had opened the scoring for RBL in the 14th minute of the game but VAR then ruled out the goal due to a handball by Christopher Nkunku in the build-up. Sardar Azmoun came close for the hosts (45+2') but it was Diego Demme who fired in the first goal of the game just before the break (45+5) after Marcel Sabitzer's freekick rebouunded off the Zenit wall.
RBL took the momentum into the second half and Marcel Sabitzer made it count when he latched onto a beautiful Emil Forsberg through ball and slotted it home to double the Leipzig lead (63'). Zenit threw everything at our defence but the back line stayed strong. Peter Gulácsi also made some crucial saves during his 150th appearence for RB Leipzig to help ensure that the game finished 2-0.
