RB Leipzig fought back to earn a late 2-2 draw against Benfica in order to secure their spot in the Champions League round of 16.
A back-and-forth affair saw RBL start off on the right foot, but it was Benfica who would take the lead through Pizzi in the 20th minute. Despite several chances, Leipzig headed into the break narrowly behind.
The second half got off to a rough start for the Bulls. Lukas Klostermann slipped at the halfway line in the 59th minunte, allowing Carlos Vinícius a free path to goal where he would score to make it 2-0. Vinicius was unlucky to hit Péter Gulácsi in the head during his run, and the goalkeeper had to be taken off injured.
Leipzig went on the attack soon after, but had to wait to be rewarded. Patrik Schick skillfully trapped the ball before winning a penalty, which Emil Forsberg cooly converted (90').
In added time it was once again Forsberg who found himself in the spotlight, this time after getting on the end of a Timo Werner cross to head home the equaliser (90'+6). After over ten minutes of added time, the final whistle finally blew. For the first time ever, Leipzig have advanced to the Champions League round of 16.
