"The game gives us momentum for Benfica"

Emil Forsberg, Julian Nagelsmann and Péter Gulácsi analyse Saturday night's 1-1 draw with FC Bayern.

Matchday 4's headline fixture in the Bundesliga ended in a thrilling 1-1 draw between RB Leipzig and FC Bayern München! We gathered the thoughts from head coach Julian Nagelsmann, goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi and goalscorer Emil Forsberg after the game.

Emil Forsberg:

  • "We'll happily take the point. We did a lot of running in the first half; we didn't have much of the ball and couldn't get any control. Bayern played really good football though. We improved after half time and played some really good stuff.

I knew exactly what I had to do for the penalty - hit it precise with plenty of power. I was confident that I would put it away. You always have to step up to a spot-kick full of confidence."

Julian Nagelsmann:

  • "We couldn't have started much worse and struggled to get into the game after their goal. We got a foothold in the second half though and created a number of decent chances. It was end-to-end in the closing stages.

It's always important to go into a midweek European match with some momentum from our league game. We'll take a positive feeling with us to Lisbon and hopefully it will help us make a good start in the Champions League against Benfica."

Péter Gulácsi:

  • "Ultimately, it was a deserved draw because we upped our game so much after the break. Scoring right before half time was definitely a blessing for us, as we were a little hectic and were making a lot of mistakes.

We played with a lot more courage in the second half and had more options in possession. If you look at the chances for both teams, we probably could even have won it. Both goalkeepers had to be at their best today. It was important for me to help my team secure a point."
