What a result for RBL in London! Die Roten Bullen put in a strong away performance at Tottenham Hotspur to claim a 1-0 advantage after the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie. Over 3,000 travelling Leipzig fans celebrated a memorable win, secured via the penalty spot by Timo Werner.
Julian Nagelsmann's side were very much on top in the first half, with almost 65 percent possession in the opening 45 minutes. RBL burst out of the starting gates, with both Angelino and Timo Werner unlucky not to open the scoring inside 90 seconds. Tottenham grew into the game as it progressed, but Jose Mourinho's side were more focused on defensive stability.
The flow of the match changed a little after the break, with Spurs offering more of a threat and Péter Gulácsi having to make some good saves. The breakthrough came for RBL though when Timo Werner converted a penalty shortly before the hour mark. Patrik Schick also had a golden chance to add to the away goals tally, but like Gulácsi at the other end, Hugo Lloris was on form to keep Spurs in the tie, although it's very much advantage Leipzig for the return fixture at the Red Bull Arena on Tuesday, 10th March.
