Timo Werner's RB Leipzig milestones

Timo Werner will leave RB Leipzig to sign for Chelsea | Bundesliga runner-up, DFB-Pokal finalist and Champions League quarterfinalist | The Bulls' all-time top goalscorer with 95 goals and 40 assists

RB Leipzig announced the signing of Timo Werner from VfB Stuttgart on 14th June 2016. The then 20-year-old had played 95 times in the Bundesliga, scoring 13 goals and laying on ten for his teammates. His goalscoring record would greatly improve in Leipzig, as he became the club's all-time record goalscorer.

Together with Timo Werner, we finished second in the Bundesliga, made the DFB-Pokal final in Berlin and reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League for the first time this season. Timo's 95 goals and 40 assists have been so important to us along the way.

The Germany international will sign for Premier League outfit Chelsea next season. Before he leaves, we've put together his most memorable moments and milestones at RB Leipzig to say thank you!

THANK YOU FOR FOUR GREAT YEARS!
GOOD LUCK IN ENGLAND, TIMO!

Timo's Leipzig debut came on 17th July 2016 in a friendly against 1. FC Frankfurt. He only needed five minutes to score for the first time. He ended up with a brace on the day.

Timo's competitive debut came as a substitute in the first round of the DFB-Pokal at Dynamo Dresden. The game didn't go very well for Leipzig, but he wouldn't have to wait long for his first win.

Werner made his Bundesliga debut for RB away at TSG Hoffenheim - he didn't score.
Image
His first two competitive goals for Leipzig came two weeks later at Hamburger SV - he would go on to score 93 more!

Probably the most exciting game of our debut Bundesliga season. We lost 5-4 at home to FC Bayern and Timo scored twice - his fifth brace in 2016/17.
Image
In our first Bundesliga campaign we finished second. Werner ended as our top goalscorer with 21 goals and seven assists.

Europe, here we come! A second-place finish in the Bundesliga saw us qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time.
Image
A special moment in our club's history and also in the career of Timo Werner.
Image
There's not many quicker players about. Timo showed off his pace in the 2-0 win at HSV in 2017/18, when he ran half the pitch before scoring a stunning solo goal.
Image
The striker made his Champions League debut in his second season at Leipzig. RB drew 1-1 at home to AS Monaco.

We failed to get out of the group in our first ever Champions League campaign, despite taking seven points. We were still proud of our debut season in Europe though.
Image
After finishing third in the group, we went into the Europa League. Timo was back in the goals with a brace in the first leg against Napoli, which helped secure our place in the last 16.
Image
Zenit were beaten in the next round, which saw Leipzig face Olympique Marseille in the quarterfinals. Timo scored in both games, however our young squad couldn't make it through.

A 3-1 win in Hamburg saw us reach the DFB-Pokal final in Berlin for the first time ever in 2018/19.
Image
We would face record German champions FC Bayern.

Even though we lost, this will always be remembered as a special occasion. The road to Berlin was also a special time for Timo.

A 3-1 win over SC Freiburg in 2018/19 sealed qualification for the Champions League again in the club's third Bundesliga season.

Timo's 16 league goals and 9 assists certainly helped the side's cause.
Image
Timo was even more prolific under new coach Julian Nagelsmann in 2019/20. He scored his first hat-trick for the club on matchday 3 in Mönchengladbach.
Image
Hat-trick hero! He then scored three goals in both games against 1. FSV Mainz 05. He also bagged five braces across last season.
Image
We can't forget about the Champions League. Werner scored a double in the first group-stage game against Benfica.
Image
It would prove to be an historic group stage! We qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time after winning a group with Benfica, Lyon and Zenit.

We then faced last year's finalists Tottenham Hotspur in the last 16. Timo Werner scored from the spot to give us a 1-0 win in London.
Image
We won the home tie comfortably 3-0 to book our place in the quarterfinals - the biggest success in the club's history so far.
Image
As well as the hat-trick against Mainz, Timo scored aginst Köln, Düsseldorf and Augsburg after the restart of the Bundesliga.
Image
His brace in his final game at Augsburg secured us third place and ensured we qualified once again for the UCL.
Image
His two goals in Augsburg meant that he leaves the club as the all-time top goalscorer. He will move to England with 95 goals and 40 assists to his name for Leipzig.

THANK YOU TIMO! We wish you all the best and good luck in England! You will always be remembered in Leipzig.
