A Topspiel win! The Red Bulls stomped to an emphatic 5-0 win over Schalke. A dominant first half performance was just lacking that cutting edge as Julian Nagelsmann's side went into the break with a narrow 1-0 lead. The second half started just as the first, however this time they made their dominance pay with a flurry of goals. The only negative from the game was that Konrad Laimer picked up his fifth yellow card of the season, and will miss next week's game against Leverkusen through suspension.
The first half was characterised by the number of shots had by each side, with Leipzig dominating by ten shots to Schalke's zero. However, the Bulls failed to add to their early lead through Marcel Sabitzer's long range strike, going into half time just one goal to the good.
Finding the back of the net certainly wasn't a problem for Leipzig in the second half, with Timo Werner doubling their lead shortly after the restart (61'). Marcel Halstenberg (68'), Angelino (80') and Emil Forsberg (89') made the score line all the more flattering in what was a heavily deserved victory. Christopher Nkunku was one of the stand-out performers, assisting four of Leipzig's five goals. Nagelsmann's side now sit in second place in the Bundesliga table, hunting down the leaders Bayern!
