"Were proud to have reached the semifinals"

Head coach Julian Nagelsmann, sporting director Markus Krösche and Péter Gulácsi react to the 3-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-final.

Julian Nagelsmann:

  • „PSG were simply the better side, we have to accept that. We started the game well and won possession effectively. However we were hectic in the final third and thereore didn't create any clear chances. We couldn't take advantage of the emotion of the occassion. The first goal came from a set piece, and we were very unlicky with the second and third goals, as they came from simple mistakes which are punished at this level.

We also started the second half well and conceded the third goal out of nothing. After that it was a question of character. We stood up to that and kept going until the end."

  • "We're very proud to have made it to the semifinals, even though the frustration is the overriding emotion at the moment. It is very impressive to be among the four best teams in Europe. A lot of things have to come together in order to beat an opponent like PSG. We have a long way to go to reach that level, but we're a team capable of developing, and we've already achieved a lot.“

Head coach Julian Nagelsmann recognised the individual class of PSG.

Markus Krösche:

  •  "PSG had a very good game over 90 minutes and deserved to win. We never had a real way into the game and also made too many errors. PSG played some good football, were adaptive and took their chances. We weren't really on the ball and didn't have much control over the game.

However, we can be pleased and very proud. We reached the semifinals of the Champions League and performed brilliantly against Atletico. The team did well and we showed what we can do on a big stage. We will take a lot from today's defeat and grow as a team."

Péter Gulácsi:

  • "There wasn't much there for us today, and PSG had too much quality. We needed another top performance like the one against Atletico but we weren't able to do so. We made too many simple mistakes, weren't effective in duels and conceded goals at bad times.
However, we never backed down and came out with more bravey and aggression in the second half. The third goal sealed the win for them. Of course, we all wanted to reach the final. We haven't done that and therefore everyone is very disappointed. However, I think in a few days we'll be able to look at things differently and will be proud to have reached the semifinals."
Péter Gulácsi: In a few days we'll feel proud.
