First mid-season summary! Ten matches have now passed and we find ourselves in the second international break of the season. So you don't have to spend this time missing the lads, we've put together a few statistics for you from what has been a good start to the season.
Julian Nagelsmann's team have managed to grab six victories so far this season, with two draws and two losses making up the rest of the results. The team has scored 20 goals and conceded twelve with Peter Gulacsi managing to keep two clean sheets thus far.
The cup competitions:
The DFB-Pokal game proved to be a tough one for RBL as they narrowly escaped from Osnabrück with a 3-2 victory. Marcel Sabitzer (2 goals) and Yusuf Poulsen (2 assists) saw the team safely in to the 2nd round!
The Champions League has provided mixed feelings for Leipzig so far. A convincing win in the first game against Benfica was promptly followed by a mistake-ridden loss at home to Olympique Lyon. We therefore sit 3rd in Group G currently and require better results if we are to progress to the K.O. stages!
The Bundesliga:
After a dream start to the Bundesliga season with four wins from four, the lads are winless in their last two games. After a bad loss at home to Schalke, the team failed to capitalise on their chances against Leverkusen and ended up taking just a point back home. It was unlucky, and the team know that if they continue to play like that throughout the season, they'll get plenty of wins. The table is so close heading in to the international break with the team sharing fourth place with SC Freiburg.
Five teams currently sit on 14 points (Bayern, Freiburg, Schalke, RBL and Leverkusen) shortly followed by Dortmund on 12 points with Wolfsburg and Gladbach leading the way (14, 15). We're in for a special title race!
The team are playing at a really high level technically and morale is high (Diego Demme racked up his 200th game for the club against Bayer 04). The aren't just convincing with the ball, but they fight for every ball with enthusiasm. Our team are third in the league in kilometers ran with 827.64km, which puts them just behind Paderborn and Leverkusen.
The Attack:
Our strikers have been in great form to start the season, although they have taken a mini break in the last few games. 20 goals and counting so far which is an average of two per game! Timo Werner and Marcel Sabitzer have been a huge part of that. Unsere
Timo already has 7 goals and 1 assist to his name, with Marcel Sabitzer also on 4 goals and 4 assists. The pair have therefore contributed to 8 goals each with a great passing accuracy of 78% between them.
The Defence:
The boys can also be proud of the way they've defended so far this season. Although 12 goals in 20 games isn't the best statistic and must be worked on, overall the boys have looked solid in defence! Péter Gulácsi has already kept two clean sheets as well as making 27 saves - the second best in the league!
The centre back pairing of Willi Orban and Ibrahima Konaté have put in great performances, winning 66% of their tackles and both have unbelievable pass accuracy which has been key for build-up play (Orban 90%, Konaté 95%)! The pair have also been great in the air with the captain winning 79% of his headers and the young frenchman winning 81%! Orban also has a goal to his name - of course scored with his head!
