RBL's best start to a season

Our best ever start | 3 wins in 3 games | Top of the table | Werner and Sabitzer with club records | An overview of the season so far

Leipzig celebrate a best ever start to a season

Top start! Three wins from the first three matches makes this the most succesful start to a season in RBL's history. The team goes into the upcoming game with FC Bayern München in great form. 3 wins, 9 points, 9 goals scored, 2 conceded and top of the table - the numbers speak for themselves.

Timo Werner and Marcel Sabitzer have also recorded a club record number of goals and assists

Club records for our forwards

Marcel Sabitzer broke the record for assists with three in the first three games. No Leipzig player has matched this feat in the Bundesliga before.

  • 2018/19: 2 assists (Emil Forsberg)
  • 2017/18: 2 assists (Jean-Kévin Augustin)
  • 2016/17: 2 assists (Emil Forsberg)

Timo Werner also set a new record, scoring 5 goals already this season. Timo has been our top scorer in the first three games of every Bundesliga season so far:

  • 2018/19: 2 goals (joint with Jean-Kévin Augustin)
  • 2017/18: 3 goals
  • 2016/17: 2 goals

Marcel Sabitzer has made three assists already this season. He was especially impressive in the match against Union Berlin and was directly involved in all four goals.

Strong Leipzig defence once again

RBL's defence has also been excellent, even by last season's incredibly high standards. The bulls conceded just 29 times in the 2018/19 season and had the best defensive record in the league (Bayern conceded 32 times), keeping 16 clean sheets - the most in the league. Péter Gulácsi was won the award for best goalkeeper.

After three games this season, only two goals have been conceded (best in the league, joint with VfL Wolfsburg). Only the start to the 2014/15 season saw fewer goals conceded. In fact, Leipzig kept three clean sheets in a row at the start of that season in the second tier.

The players statistics reveal our defensive strength:

  • Willi Orban:
    Duels won 62.8%
Pass success rate 90% (top 20 in the league)

  • Ibrahima Konaté:
Duels won 74.3% (100% of aerial duels)
Pass success rate 94% (6th in the league)

  • Nordi Mukiele:
    Duels won 63%
    Pass success rate 89.2%

Seasons by comparison

All unsere weiteren Saisonstarts im Überblick:

The start to the 2018/19 season is not just the most successful in our Bundesliga history, but the most successful of all time. RBL have never won all of the first three games before or had a goal difference of +7 after three matches.

Fun fact: Bayern started last season with three wins and a goal difference of +7 and went on to win the league...
