"We really want the three points"

Head coach Julian Nagelsmann spoke to the press ahead of RB Leizpig's away fixture with TSG Hoffenheim | Squad news: Dayot Upamecano suspended, Marcel Sabitzer a doubt

Julian Nagelsmann on ...

… a change at the top for Hoffenheim:

  • "Mattias Kaltenbach's new coaching staff won't drastically change the way Hoffenheim play. Though they'll be ambitious and will look to integrate one or two new things. However, when they're under pressure, the team will revert to old patterns. But I know the new head coach's basic habits and am well prepared."

… drawing less in the future:

  • "The Hoffenheim game is extremely important for us, and we really want to take all three points. So we need to be mentally and physically fit. In order to allow this to be shown on the pitch, we did a reduced training regime this week. I'm pretty optimistic an think that we can avoid another draw if we put away our chances."

… competition for the Champions League spots:

  • "The remaining fixtures are pretty similar for Dortmund, Leverkusen and us. Gladbach face Bayern, which is an extra task. So nobody has a particular advantage in this regard. These four sides are also not taking too much. But we have the advantage and can influence the situation ourselves. We need three wins for it all to be done."
Upamecano will miss the Hoffenheim game through suspension.

+++ Squad news +++

  • Yussuf Poulsen is still out through injury.
  • Ethan Ampadu has returned to training following his back problems, but on an individual regimen.
  • Ibrahima Konaté is fit. But it's not been decided whether he will be in the squad for Hoffenheim.
  • Timo Werner and Marcel Sabitzer are both on four yellow cards. A further booking for either player would result in suspension.
