Next up for the Red Bulls is their second Champions League game of the season. The aim for Wednesday is clear: to obtain the next three points on our road to the knock-out stages and to defend our lead at the top of Group G.
In this week's opponent analyis we put the seven-time French champions under the microscope.
The breeding ground for young stars:
Olympique Lyon are a team rich with history. At one point the French side seemed to be invincible in their league, winning all seven league titles in a row. They also have five cup victories, seven super cup victories and a league cup victory to their name, however they have yet failed to win a European title.
Lyon certainly aren't short of high profile names. They have four home-grown talents in their current squad that have amassed a total of 430 appearances between them, including the highly rated Houssem Aouar. Numerous big names have previously worn the colours of Olympique Lyon, such as Eric Abidal, Michael Essien, Florent Maluda and Juninho Pernambucano. This is in addition to the plethora of world class talent to have plied their trade at Lyon, such as Huge Lloris, Samuel Umtiti, Miralem Pjanic, Corentin Tolisso, Anthony Martial, Alexandre Lacazette and Karim Benzema. Bundesliga stars Ishak Belfodil, Jean-Philippe Mateta and Alasane Plea have also played for them.
So far this season Lyon have picked up two wins and three draws, as well as three defeats. They are currently sitting in 11th place in the table, with a goal difference of 14:8.
Their biggest goal threats are currently strikers Moussa Dembele (6) and Memphis Depay (4). However new signing Thiago Mendes (3 assists) and home-grown talent Houssem Auoar (2 assists) can also prove to be dangerous.

In the Champions League they managed to reach the knock-out stages of the competition, despite only winning one game throughout the group stages (2-1 against Manchester City).
