"We owe it to the fans!"

RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff discusses the current situation in the Bundesliga and the DFL's concept of possibly restarting again in May.

After the DFL's members meeting on Thursday, RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff gave his thoughts on their concept regarding the season restarting in May.

Oliver Mintzlaff on...

... THE DFL'S CONCEPT:

  • "Today's DFL meeting saw constructive discussions between all clubs. The concept that the DFL presented was well thought out and is sustainable for the coming matchdays. The financial agreement, which the DFL made with their media partners, has also given the clubs security."

... GAMES BEHIND CLOSED DOORS IN MAY:

  • "We obviously hope that games can be played behind closed doors in May, however it's not our decision to make - the government will be responsible for that. Regardless of when we start up again, we want to do our job, by following all of the hygiene guidelines and by preparing for the possible resumption of the campaign. We owe that to the competition itself and our fans too."

... THE BUNDESLIGA'S RESPONSIBILITY:

  • "I think the fact that the DFL has donated €500,000 towards test facilities for other parts of society shows that football is in the middle of society and is aware of its responsibility in these difficult times."
