The DFB-Pokal final, qualifying for the UCL last 16, finishing top at Christmas - The Magic Moments 2019

2019 DFB-Pokal final against FC Bayern | Qualification for the Champions League knockouts | Top of the Bundesliga at Christmas

An immensely successful 2019 is nearly at an end, so now is as good a time as any to take a look back at our best moments from the year. The Bulls reached the final of the DFB-Pokal for the first time ever, finished top of their UEFA Champions League group to qualify for the last 16 for the first time ever, and are top of the Bundesliga table for the winter break. These achievements along with the record victories, incredible visiting teams and stellar individual performances all make for an incredibly exciting year for us to review.

Bundesliga:

We're starting our year review with a 4-0 win! On Matchday 19 of last season, we were triumphant over Fortuna Düsseldorf, recording one of our biggest away wins of the year in the Bundesliga.
Image
Matchday 27 saw us deliver another massive winning margin when Yussuf Poulsen's hat-trick helped us defeat Hertha BSC 5-0 in front of our home fans!
Image
Matheus Cunha produced one of the goals of the season in our very next Bundesliga game, a 4-2 victory over Leverkusen.
Image
We secured our place in the Champions League with a 2-1 win against SC Freiburg in our penultimate game of last season.
Image
The fans were presented with a very special guest at our last home game of the season! MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez put on a real show in the Red Bull Arena ahead of our clash with FC Bayern.
Image
The new season began with a bang for the Bulls, as they equalled the Düsseldorf result with their joint-biggest away win of the year against Union Berlin. Marcel Sabitzer was involved in all four goals!
Image
Timo Werner then stole the show against Gladbach. His hat-trick was enough for three more points on the road.
Image
We then hosted FC Bayern at the Red Bull Arena. Péter Gulàcsi ensured that the points were shared with a sublime save to deny Bayern a winner.
Image
Of course, our 8-0 win against Mainz 05 just had to be included in our Magic Moments recap! Timo Werner was impressive again, scoring three and assisting two. Nordi Mukiele's 'Joker' celebration was almost as memorable as the performance.
Image
Emil Forsberg shone in a 4-1 win at home to 1. FC Köln, scoring his first brace for RB Leipzig, which included a phenomenal free kick!
Image
A more recent highlight was the crazy 3-3 result away to BVB, in which the Bulls managed to come from behind twice to rescue a point.
Image
A win against Augsburg at home in our final match of the year then crowned us 'Kings of the Hinrunde', as we secured the top spot for Christmas.

DFB-Pokal:

Image
One of the most exciting moments of our last DFB-Pokal campaign was the quarter final match against FC Augsburg. We scored in extra time to make it 2-1.
Image
Marcel Halstenberg fired us into the semi-finals just before full time!
Image
The biggest highlight of our 2019 cup run was definitely the final against Bayern in Berlin! Even though we lost 3-0, it was an amazing experience. Perhaps we'll be back in the final in 2020!
Image
This season has already seen us produce a DFB-Pokal spectacle - a 6-1 victory at VfL Wolfsburg in the second round!
Image
Not only was it our biggest DFB-Pokal win, but also our biggest win away from home in 2019!

UEFA Champions League:

Image
Our first Champions League game of the season ended in a 2-1 win away at Benfica! Timo Werner was responsible for both goals.
Image
Marcel Sabitzer produced the next UCL group stage highlight - a gorgeous goal against Zenit St. Petersburg that won Champions League 'Goal of the Week' and 'Goal of the Month' in Germany!
Image
Emil Forsberg came to the rescue in our 2-2 draw at home against Benfica. His stoppage-time brace sent us into the last 16!
Image
Another 2-2 in our final group game against Lyon was enough for us to finish top of the group!
Image
The came the day of the draw. For the first time in our history, we'll be playing against an English club! We're off to London in February 2020 to face Tottenham Hotspur!
