RB Leipzig sign Hee-Chan Hwang
24-year-old striker joins from FC Red Bull Salzburg | Contract until 2025 | Had a hand in 38 goals in 2019/20 | 32 caps for South Korea
A new striker for the Bulls! RB Leipzig have completed the signing of Hee-chan Hwang from FC Red Bull Salzburg. The 24-year-old South Korean has signed a five-year deal and will wear the number 11.
After coming through the Pohang Steelers academy in South Korea, Hee-chan Hwang moved to Austria in 2015. He first played for Salzburg in January 2016, before spending 2018/19 on loan at Hamburger SV, appearing in 20 Bundesliga 2 matches and one DFB-Pokal tie.
The attacker scored 16 goals and recorded 22 assists in 40 games in all competitions for Salzburg this season. He managed three goals and five assists alone in just six Champions League outings.
Hwang has already played 32 times for the South Korean national side. He was part of the Olympic side in 2016, and he scored against Germany in the group stages (3-3 draw).
He will have “Hee-chan” on the back of his shirt at Leipzig as the first name is always said first in South Korea. He isn’t eligible to play in the UEFA Champions League tournament in Lisbon in August.
Welcome to Leipzig, Hee-chan!
