Everything to know about the Champions League tournament

Quarterfinal match on 13th August | Game to be played in Lisbon | Quarterfinals and semi-finals to be played as single-leg matches | Final to take place on 23rd August at the Estadio da Luiz

The Champions League is back! Our 2019/20 Champions League season will pick up where we left off five months ago, following a 3-0 win against Tottenham - our last match in the competition. This year, the Champions League will finish with a knockout tournament in Lisbon.

The quarterfinals will kick off on 12th August, with each match being single-leg elimination. The Bulls will be back in action on 13th August (21:00 CEST) against Atlético Madrid. The match will take place at the Estádio José Alvalde in Lisbon.

The four remaining round of 16 second-leg matches will be played on 7th and 8th August, with the home sides hosting each match.

Additional information on the tournament:

  • Our quarterfinal match will take place on 13th August. The semi-finals will take place on 18th and 19th August.
 

     
  • The remaining matches will kick off at 21:00 CEST. 
 

     
  • The Champions League final will take place on 23rd August at the Estadio da Luiz.
 

     
  • New signing are not eligible to feature in the tournament. However, each team has the option to select three alternate players. As a result, new signings Benny Henrichs, Hee-chan Hwang and Josep Martinez will not be included in the squad. The trio will, however, travel to Lisbon with the team. 

Here's what changes as of the quarterfinals:

  • All matches will be single-leg elimination (no second legs). 

  • Squad size: Instead of the usual 18 players, teams will be able to nominate 23 players to their matchday squad. 

  • Yellow card: All yellow cards will be wiped out after the round of 16. All our players will be entering the tournament with no previous bookings.

  • Substitutions: We will be permitted to make up to five substitutions per match, as we were also able to do during the most recent Bundesliga season. Team's will be permitted to make an additional substitution in the event that the match goes into extra time.
    Teams will have three opportunities to make substitutions during the course of the game. They will also be permitted to make substitutions during halftime, before extra time and during halftime in extra time.
