"We want to end 2018 with a win"

Coach Ralf Rangnick gives his thoughts on the final game of the year against Werder Bremen | Marcel Sabitzer available again | Stefan Ilsanker suspended | Emil Forsberg remains sidelined

The 2018 finale is upon us! Die Roten Bullen will host SV Werder Bremen at the Red Bull Arena on Saturday (15:30 CET) in their last game of the year.

On Friday, head coach Ralf Rangnick spoke to the media about the match and the current squad situation.

Ralf Rangnick:

  • "We have played a fair few games more than Werder so far this season, but the boys are still ready to give it everything they've got. I have no doubts that they still have enough in the tank tomorrow.

Our job as coaching staff is to prepare for Werder Bremen as best we game. It will ultimately come down to who wants it more on the day, and we're determined to end the year with a win.

It's been a very enjoyable year with this group. It's nice to see how some of the players have really developed - it shows that we're doing things right.

Ibrahima Konaté is testament to that - he has become a regular starter and is arguably one of our key players. We're very happy to have him on board."

  • Emil Forsberg remains sidelined with a groin problem.

  • Stefan Ilsanker was sent off against Bayern for dangerous tackle and will miss at least the Bremen game.

  • Marcel Sabitzer, on the other hand, has served his yellow-card suspension and returns for selection.
  • Dayot Upamecano and Diego Demme both currently have four yellow cards to their name and would receive a one-match ban for their next booking.
  • Saturday's referee will be Bibiana Steinhaus.
