There was nothing to separate Die Roten Bullen and FC Augsburg on matchday 8 of the Bundesliga, as 28,703 spectators witnessed a fair 0-0 draw.
It was a match littered with fouls - a whopping 44 in total - and it resulted in a somewhat stilted affair with few goalscoring opportunities. The most exciting moment of the first half saw RBL awarded a penalty when Timo Werner was tripped in the box, but after a lengthy VAR delay, an offside was spotted in the build-up and the decision was overturned.
The flow of the game didn't change in the second half, although we did finally see the odd close call in front of goal. Marcel Halstenberg's top-corner-bound free-kick was tipped away by Andreas Luthe and Willi Orban came agnonisingly close to turning the ball home from a set-piece delivery in the last minute. Augsburg never really tested Petér Gulácsi at the other end as the sides deservedly shared the spoils.
The point signals a fifth straight league game without defeat, as well as back-to-back clean sheets for Die Roten Bullen.
