Die Roten Bullen claimed their first three points in this season’s Europa League away at Norwegian record champions Rosenborg BK.
After a cagey start, RBL quickly took control of the game and made the use of their first big chance, when Jean-Kévin Augustin controlled Diego Demme’s fantastic cross-field ball and curled a superb strike into the net. On account of their dominance and chances on goal, Die Roten Bullen should have extended their lead going into the break.
RBL picked up where they left off in the second half, with a more clinical edge in front of goal. Ibrahima Konaté poked home from Marcel Halstenberg’s corner nine minutes after the restart, and just seven minutes later Matheus Cunha marked a strong display with a great finish, his third goal for the club. Rosenborg pulled one back in the final 15 minutes, but this proved to be a consolation as Leipzig held on to take a well-deserved three points.
