Leipzig fell to a 3-0 defeat away at SC Freiburg on Bundesliga Matchday 14.
Coach Ralf Rangnick made just one change from last weekend's 2-0 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach, with Cunha coming in for Bruma. Die Roten Bullen established a hold on the game from the offset, controlling the midfield and retaining possession. The hosts took the lead against the run of play however, when Nils Petersen scored after Péter Gulácsi's good initial save. RBL looked to reply, but chances were few and far between. Werner had a good opportunity to score in the 20th minute, but his shot from the right-hand side of the box was well-saved. Just 5 minutes later, a well-delivered corner from Marcel Halstenberg went through everyone - a touch from an RBL player would have put it in the back of the Freiburg net. The hosts had the better chances, with Gulácsi being forced to make a brilliant save from Luca Waldschmidt's long range shot. The Freiburg attacker did, however, get on the scoresheet before the half ended, converting a penalty after the video assistant awarded the hosts a penalty.
It didn't get any better in the second half for the visitors, as Mike Frantz headed in to make it three for Freiburg. A subdued Leipzig never looked like getting anything back from the game, and created very few chances. The only real big chance for Die Roten Bullen fell to Marcel Sabitzer, but his shot went wide of the goal. RBL will look to make amends next Thursday, when they play Rosenborg at home in the Europa League.
