Timo Werner: "It was clear that the first goal would decide the game"

The thoughts of Ralf Rangnick and Timo Werner after the 1-0 defeat against FC Salzburg.

RAlf Rangnick:

  • "We played well from 20 minutes onwards. We would have had to play very well to win. Salzburg are a top European team, but luck wasn't on our side today.

We hope that one or two of the players injured today return on Sunday. A top game awaits us back at home against Gladbach - a very important game. We want to find the form from our last few Bundesliga games again."

  • "We were fast asleep in the first 20 minutes. The second half was more competitive until they scored. We fought and really gave it a go, but it was clear who was going to score first - that was obvious.

Everyone knows the state of play in the group. A win would have been so important. Now, unfortunately, our fate is no longer in our own hands."
