After last Sunday’s 4-1 loss to start the season, Die Roten Bullen were looking to bounce back with a win at home in the Red Bull Arena.
Gulácsi in fine form
The first half set the tempo for a lively game in which neither team budged an inch. Peter Gulásci put in a fine display in his 100th competitive appearance for the club, stopping Marvin Duksch scoring from six yards out. Meanwhile, Timo Werner, Kevin Kampl and Emil Forsberg all came close to scoring at the other end.
Augustin gets the equaliser
Fortuna took the lead straight after the break through Matthias Zimmermann’s finish. Die Roten Bullen raised the tempo in response and took control of the game, putting pressure on their opponents. The equaliser came in the 68th minute, when Jean-Kévin Augustin latched onto Nordi Mukiele’s cross, making it 1-1.
Leipzig had further chances after scoring, with Werner hitting the post and Matheus Cunha putting the ball just wide after a superb overhead kick. Despite their efforts, the match finished a draw, in what was a hotly-contested encounter.
- "We found it difficult to find our rhythm in the first half. I'm most annoyed with the goal we conceded, because we gave them too much space. We had hoped for more today. Still, well done to Fortuna.
I can't criticise the attitude and moral of my team in the slightest. But the whole team must defend better. There are still negatives - while some players were very good, others are still not at the level they once were at."
