Die Roten Bullen got their first win of the season with a 3-2 victory over Hannover 96. It was an entertaining match full of chances, played out in front of a crowd of 38,937 in the Red Bull Arena.
It only took 9 minutes for Leipzig to go 1-0 up, when Yussuf Poulsen headed in Diego Demme's cross from the flank. The celebrations were short-lived however, as only 4 minutes later Hannover equalised through Niklas Füllkrug's screamer.
The match evened out after that, with both sides having good chances. This all changed 5 minutes before half-time, when Timo Werner got his first goal of the season from 10 yards out, to give Die Roten Bullen the advantage going into the break.
Both teams started the second half well. Péter Gulácsi made a stunning diving save to deny Walace's header, while at the other end, Timo Werner continued to pose a threat. His hard work in attack eventually paid off, as he made it 3-1 in an exact replica of his first goal, Forsberg claiming the assist. It was Werner's ninth brace in an RBL shirt.
In a manner similar to RBL's first goal, however, Hannover immediately scored at the other end to set up a tense finish. Brave and resolute defending from Die Roten Bullen condemned Hannover to defeat and marked RBL's first win of the 2018/18 Bundesliga season.
