RBL's Europa League journey has come to end. A 1-1 draw with Rosenborg meant that RB Leipzig were unable to proceed through to the knockout round, even though Celtic lost to FC Salzburg in the other group stage game.
Many chances but no goal
Die Roten Bullen started the game well, and had the first two chances of the game to take the lead through Jean-Kévin Augustin. However, Rosenborg keeper André Hansen denied him both times when he was through on goal. After a strong fifteen minutes, the hosts continued to dominate the game.
The thirtieth minute of the game brought along more opportunities for the home side. Augustin came close again, followed by Kevin Kampl and Matheus Cunha. The best chance of the half fell to Willi Orban, who headed a corner onto the crossbar.
Cunha scores, Rosenborg equalise
It only took two minutes into the second half before RB Leipzig finally took the lead. Bruma laid the ball off to Matheus Cunha, who fired the ball into the back of the net. The hosts pushed for a second goal immediately after, but were unable to find the net.
As the second half went on, RBL kept pushing for the second goal. Yussuf Poulsen struck the post as Die Roten Bullen again came close to a second. Meanwhile, Yvon Mvogo made a superb save at the other end to deny a Samuel Adegbenro effort. In the last fifteen minutes, Poulsen had another huge chance to finish the game off but his effort was straight at the goalkeeper. In the 87th minute of the game, the away side scored a surprise goal against the run of play, with Reginiussen heading home for the Norwegian team. The result remained as a draw, which means that RBL are knocked out the Europa League.
