Another step on the way to the Europa League group stages! Leipzig booked their place in the third qualifying round of the competition after a 1-1 draw with BK Häcken in Gothenburg on Thursday night, claiming the two-legged tie 5-1 on aggregate. Niclas Stierlin, Diego Demme, Massimo Bruno and Emil Forsberg all came in as Ralf Rangnick made five changes from the first leg starting 11.
Goalless at the break
On an unfamiliar artificial pitch in Gothenburg, Die Roten Bulen were the better side in the first half and had the best chance just before the break through Lukas Klostermann, who saw his angled drive saved by Rasheed in the Häcken goal. Though the hosts grew into the game as the half wore on, Marius Müller in the Leipzig goal was never threatened.
Bruno puts Leipzig ahead
Shortly after the restart DieRotenBullen took the lead when Massimo Bruno fired home low and hard from the edge of the box to seal the tie. The home side continued to press but rarely got a sight of the visiting goal until the 85th minute, when Daleho Irandust slotted home from 18 yards.
Ralf Rangnick used the second half to give three youth players their professional debuts and Erik Matejschak, Oliver Bias and Lukas Krüger were all able to get their first ever senior appearances in the red and white of RB Leipzig.
