After reaching the Europa League play-offs only yesterday, die Roten Bullen are back in action this Sunday at 15:30 (CEST). Leipzig are playing away at fourth-tier Viktoria Köln in the first round of the DFB-Pokal.
Ralf Rangnick spoke about the upcoming fixture and the current state of the squad in a press conference this afternoon.
• “In the last few years we’ve been eliminated from the cup relatively early, so it’s a bad idea for us to dream of winning it. If we take the game seriously, however, we should be targeting the second round.
Progressing won’t be a walk in the park. Viktoria Köln are a strong team, and really do have the potential to be promoted to the third tier this season. We’re facing a team with a lot of quality up front and plenty of experience in defence."
• Timo Werner (light muscle strain) trained individually again today, but should link up with the whole squad for tomorrow’s final training session before Sunday’s match, where he is expected to start.
• Konrad Laimer, Dayot Upamecano and Lukas Klostermann are also set to play a part in Sunday’s game.
• Stuttgart’s Martin Petersen will referee the match this weekend.
