"Today's win speaks for our morale and attitude"

The thoughts of Coach Ralf Rangnick, Diego Demme, Yussuf Poulsen and Timo Werner after the 4-1 win against Mainz.

Ralf rangnick:

  • "It was a tough game against a well-rested opponent, as we had expected. There were parts where we made it difficult for ourselves, but others where we played some very good football.

It was a very important game, especially after Thursday's disappointment. It speaks for our morale and set-up that we could put in such a good performance just three days later. We were very determined to win today's game."

Diego Demme

  • "We wanted to give it our all today and win at all costs. We laboured in the first 5 minutes, before scoring two quickfire goals. Mainz tried to come back, but our back five stayed strong. Our second half was solid and we played well on the counter."

Yussuf Poulsen:

  • "We had a solid opening 30 minutes and a disciplined second half. However, there were still phases where we had to do better.

My first goal was spectacular, but there was a little bit of luck involved as well. After I scored twice, Timo of course had to get in on the action. It's even more important though that our goals helped us get the home win."

 Timo Werner:

  • "We fought superbly and scored four nice goals. It's mental that I keep scoring braces this season, though! As expected, it was a tough game, because Mainz put us under a lot of pressure before half-time. Still, we deserved to win, and we'll now be in good spirits going into our last two games of the year."
